Having decided upon the general shape of the proposal, it was time to explore more in 3D. It became apparent that it would be a very boring experience to be within the cemetery if it were to be completely flat.
As a consequence, and response to the surrounding "amphitheatre," it was necessary to make the proposed extension reach up and towards the surrounding hillsides.
Although most bodies are cremated, it was decided to allocate an area where bodies might be buried in coffins. Whereas ash from cremation is inert, bodies buried in coffins will decompose. It was therefore decided to collect all water in this area, and pipe it into a reedbed cleansing area. The final elements within the development, was a raised wooded area, as well as a path connecting the cemetery with the circular path bordering the lake.
