evolvement of Bergen's coastline

The above animation shows how Bergen's coastline has evolved over the past century. Store Lungegårdsvann is the large waterbody in the lower right hand corner, with Møllendal located at the very bottom; where the river enters the lake.

As one can clearly see, extensive land areas have been reclaimed in this waterbody along the northern edge, whereas only relatively small areas have been reclaimed on its southern edge.

The present cemetery is located on the southern shore of this waterbody, and the proposed cemetery extension will be built north of the present cemetery and extend into the lake.
