To the left a series of sections are taken through the proposed extension.
These sections clearly show how the levels change within the proposed design.
Each functional area have been placed at its own level, and the levels have been worked out to allow surface drainage. Subsurface drainage is also made to function; the slope across the cemetery is sufficient to lead the water collected under the area designated for coffin burials from this raised bit into the reedbeds on the opposite side.
One may even say that form follows function. This design is also responding to the gravitational forces of mother earth, and these are explored in terms of flow rates of water. This in turn becomes a deciding factor for dimensioning of pipes etc.
The datum for the sections to the left is the waterline in each location.
